In this course, students will study the most contemporary and advanced techniques for playing hand drums today. This class will go in depth into exercises for developing the mechanical independence necessary to play multiple rhythmic patterns while, at the same time, improving speed and execution. Your level of musicianship is directly related to your ability to do independent work. Speed in drumming is a function of good technique and training. The first step in your development as a drummer is to establish good technique. In other words, it ain't the beat, it's the motion! All these techniques and exercises will be worked on while learning how to play these contemporary music rhythms: Son, Guaracha, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Cabillo, Cabillo Negro, Pilon, Songo, Mozambique, Funk Patterns, 6/8 grooves and finally odd meter grooves in 5,7,9 and so on.
